Humanistic Buddhism Panel Discussion

This panel discussion discussed about the definition, perspective and the future of Humanistic Buddhism advocated by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. The panelists shared their recent activities in propagation works on Humanistic Buddhism through writing, teaching, and public lectures.

The panel began with an overview of the book, Humanistic Buddhism: Holding True to the Original Intents of Buddha, its structure and the cause of writing the book. It continued to discuss about Ven. Master Hsing Yun’s understanding of Humanistic Buddhism, and helped to clarify various questions such as “Is Humanistic Buddhism secular or mundane?”, “Is Humanistic Buddhism transcendent or liberate?”, and the heritage of Humanistic Buddhism.

A total of six panels, each of the panels were layout according to the structure of the book. Panel 1 briefly discussed about the essence of Humanistic Buddhism, and what the Buddha conveyed to the human world with his original intents. It is closely related to society and individuals fitting the modern mentality of freedom, democracy, and equality. Panel 2 talked about the humanistic lifestyle of the Buddha, and his daily activities with the multitude.

Comprising of an international panel with Venerables from nearly all worldly continents, the focus was on the book by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, Humanistic Buddhism: Holding true to the Original Intents of Buddha.
